Danielle Carr Named Head Women's Tennis Coach

Riverdale, N.Y. – The University of Mount Saint Vincent Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Danielle Carr as the new head coach of the women's tennis program.

Her position begins effective immediately.

"I am tremendously excited to be joining athletics in the capacity of head coach of women's tennis as the department embarks on a new journey by reintroducing tennis at the Mount. As a faculty member in the English department, and former faculty liaison to the baseball team, I know from both sides that the Mount is committed to the growth, development, integrity and balance of the entire individual, both student and athlete," Carr told UMSVAthletics.com "I look forward to continuing in an athletic tradition of competitiveness, spirit, and sportsmanship as tennis grows at the University."

"We're thrilled to welcome Danielle, our new tennis coach, whose depth of experience and strong connections within our local tennis community make her an exceptional addition to our program," stated Christine Friel, Director for Athletics and Recreation. "Her leadership and passion for player development will be instrumental in elevating our young athletes. We're confident she will help build a competitive, successful program both on and off the court."

Carr has extensive experience at both the University and with Skyline Conference rivals, including this past women's tennis season, the program's first since 2009. She served as an assistant women's tennis coach at UMSV during the Fall 2025 season, gaining valuable experience within the program prior to stepping into the head coaching role.

Before returning to Riverdale, Carr spent seven seasons as the head women's tennis coach at Yeshiva University from 2017 to 2024, where she led all aspects of the program, including recruiting, match preparation, and player development, while also earning a Skyline Conference championship in 2017.

Carr has remained active at the high school level in addition to her stint within collegiate athletics. Carr is currently the JV boys' tennis coach at Blind Brook High School and also coached modified boys' tennis at the school. Carr also had prior coaching roles at New Rochelle High School, The Masters School, and the School of the Holy Child. Her coaching resume also includes work with the New York Junior Tennis League, City Parks Foundation, and various youth development programs throughout the region, highlighting her long-standing commitment to growing the game at all levels.

Alongside her coaching career, Carr has built an impressive teaching portfolio in higher education. She is currently an adjunct lecturer in Sport Science and Professional Tennis Management at Manhattanville University, while also continuing her near 10-year role as an adjunct lecturer in English at the University of Mount Saint Vincent. She has also taught English literature and writing at the City College of New York for nearly a decade and has held previous teaching roles at Mercy College and the College of New Rochelle.

Carr played tennis collegiately at Division-I Siena College, where she graduated in 2006 with her Bachelor of Arts in English.

With a career that spans collegiate athletics, high school coaching, and higher education, Carr brings a unique and impactful perspective to the Mount Saint Vincent women's tennis program as it looks for newfound success in the coming season.
