New Haven, CT - The University of Mount Saint Vincent jumped out to an early lead but couldn't hold off a late surge, falling to Albertus Magnus 13-10 in a high-scoring contest.
The Dolphins came out swinging in the first inning, capitalizing on an error before Michael Akalski launched a grand slam to give the Dolphins a quick 5-0 advantage. Albertus Magnus would then respond immediately, putting up six runs in the first two innings and adding another in the third to take a 7-5 lead.
UMSV chipped away at the deficit, getting an RBI from Pablo Austin in the fifth before reclaiming the lead in the sixth. Will Granata delivered the big blow with a three-run home run, putting the Dolphins back in front 9-8.
The Falcons answered once again, tying the game in the sixth before taking the lead for good in the seventh on a two-run homer. The Dolphins continued to battle, pulling within one in the eighth on an RBI walk by John Anthony Spanoudakis, but Albertus Magnus added two insurance runs in the bottom half to secure the win.
Offensively, the Dolphins totaled 13 hits with Michael Akalski leading the charge with a 3-for-5 performance. Granata continued to add to his all time leading home run total with another homer, while Kyle Brindisi also recorded three hits and scored a run. Andrew Farina contributed a strong performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk.
Joseph Santos was a bright spot out of the bullpen with two strikeouts in two innings.Â
The Dolphins shift back to Skyline play this weekend, with a tilt against Old Westbury set for Saturday.Â
