Danbury, CT - The University of Mount Saint Vincent delivered a dominant all-around performance, rolling to a 12-2 victory over Western Connecticut State University behind a powerful offensive showing and strong pitching.
The win improved the Dolphins overall record to 7-13 on the year.
After a scoreless opening inning, the Dolphins got on the board in the second when Evan Dutzer drove in Andrew Farina with an RBI double. The offense continued to build in the third inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Will Granata and a two-run double off the bat of Farina to extend the lead to 4-0.
UMSV took full control in the fourth, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to plate two more runs, and then broke the game open in the seventh. The Dolphins pushed across four runs in the inning, taking advantage of multiple WestConn errors along with an RBI hit-by-pitch from Nelson Falcon and a two-run single from Granata.
The Dolphins kept the pressure on late, adding another run in the eighth on an RBI single from Kyle Brindisi and one more in the ninth on an RBI double by Joe Reid. WestConn managed to score twice in the bottom of the ninth, but the outcome was never in doubt.
Mount Saint Vincent's offense totaled 16 hits in the win, led by Granata, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs as he continues to run away with the program's all-time home run record. Farina also had a standout day, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk. Michael Akalski contributed two hits and two runs scored, while Brindisi added a pair of hits and an RBI. Dutzer chipped in with a double and an RBI as part of the balanced attack.
