Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent put together a complete performance on both ends of the field, earning an 8-4 victory over Old Westbury in Skyline Conference action on Wednesday evening in the Bronx.
The Dolphins came out sharp in the opening quarter, building an early 3-0 lead. Nevaeh Martin opened the scoring off a feed from Laziza Azimova, before Isabelle Gurley and Ella Meberg followed with goals to give Mount Saint Vincent early control. Old Westbury responded late in the first, but the Dolphins carried a 3-1 advantage into the second.
UMSV extended its lead in the second quarter with another strong offensive stretch, adding three more goals. Azimova found the back of the net on an unassisted tally, while Gurley and Meberg each added their second goals of the game to push the lead to 6-1 at halftime.
After a quiet third quarter that saw Old Westbury cut slightly into the deficit, the Dolphins responded in the fourth to maintain control and ensure the win. Gurley and Brittany Boyle each scored in the final frame, with Gurley completing her hat trick to help seal the win.
Gurley led the way offensively with three goals, while Meberg added two goals and an assist. Martin played a key role in the attack, recording two goals and three assists, and Azimova contributed two assists in the victory. Boyle also added a goal and an assist as part of a balanced scoring effort for the Dolphins.
Azimova (10) and Divana Carrillo (seven) combined for 17Â ground balls, while Azimova also led the charge with four draw controls. Makenna Reekie had a stout performance in net with three saves.Â
The Dolphins will now focus on Farmingdale, who make their way to Marillac Field next week.Â
