Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent used a dominant second half to pull away for a 14-6 victory over Mount Saint Mary College in Skyline Conference action, on a day where the team honored seven of its seniors.
The win improved UMSV's conference record to 2-1, and the team is now 5-7 overall.Â
After conceding the opening goal just 10 seconds into the contest, the Dolphins responded quickly as Isaac Parsons found the net to even the score in the first quarter. UMSV then took control in the second, sparked by Thomas Vallely, who recorded a hat trick in just a two-minute stretch, including two goals assisted by Parsons. Donte Thornhill added a late goal to give the Dolphins a 5-3 lead heading into halftime.
The Dolphins continued to build momentum in the third quarter, scoring four times to extend their lead. Mattias Remes and Nigel Walker each found the back of the net, while Vallely added a man-up goal to cap off his four-goal performance. Mount Saint Vincent carried a 9-5 advantage into the final period, where the Dolphins broke the game open with a five-goal outburst. Remes took over offensively, scoring four times in the quarter, including multiple goals off feeds from Sam Hall. Josiah Johnson-Charles also added a goal as the Dolphins pulled away comfortably.
Remes led all scorers with six goals, including four in the fourth quarter, while also adding an assist. Vallely recorded four goals, highlighted by his second-quarter surge. Hall facilitated the offense with four assists, and Parsons contributed a goal and two assists as he inches closer tp UMSV's all time points and goals records/Â
The Dolphins defense put together yet another strong performance as an overall unit. The team caused 19 total turnovers, with midfielders Logan Charboneau and Marquis Gardner, along with defenders Jakob Mahon and Walker Moore each having two apiece. Harrison Chapman, Gerald Haak, Brandon Mestres and Jackson Taylor all added to the tally as well.Â
Cal Denier impressed with 10 wins in 14 face-off attempts and a team-best seven ground balls, while Nathanial Simpson won 50% of his chances. Max Mills had another solid game in net with 13 saves.Â
The Dolphins will look to carry the positive momentum into next week when they host Purchase College.Â
