Dolphins Open Conference Slate With Big Win Over SJLI

Patchogue, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent opened Skyline Conference play with a strong offensive showing, defeating St. Joseph's University Long Island, 14-10, on the road Wednesday evening.

The Dolphins set the tone early, jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Isaac Parsons and Nigel Walker, who netted two in the opening frame. UMSV continued its momentum into the second quarter, erupting for five goals to take an 8-5 lead into halftime. Chai Dunlap sparked the surge with a pair of goals, while Sam Hall, Walker Moore, and Mattias Remes each found the back of the net during the run.

Despite the Golden Eagles' attempt to claw back into the game, the Dolphins answered throughout the second half. They added two goals in the third quarter, highlighted by another tally from Parsons, before pulling away in the fourth. Parsons took over down the stretch, scoring twice early in the final period to extend the lead, while Josiah Johnson-Charles and Walker Moore capped the scoring to secure the conference-opening victory.

Parsons led the way offensively with four goals, including key scores in both halves to maintain control. Walker matched him with a four-goal performance of his own, while also adding an assist. Dunlap contributed a hat trick, giving the Dolphins three players with three or more goals in the contest.

Remes and Hall each added a goal and an assist, contributing to a balanced offensive attack that saw seven different goal scorers for UMSV.

Jakob Mahon caused four turnovers, a team best, while Moore and Brandon Mestres had two apiece. Nathanial Simpson had a career performance on the face-off dot, winning nine of 13 attempts, and the team as a whole won 59% of their tries. Goalkeeper Max Mills made eight saves in net in the victory.

With the win, the Dolphins improve to 1-0 in conference play and will look to carry the momentum into its next matchup, a home showdown against Manhattanville University of April 8.
