New London, CT - The University of Mount Saint Vincent looked to tack onto their win total on Sunday in a non-conference double header against Mitchell College. The Mariners, however, got the best of the Dolphins, winning game one 9-1 and followed up with a 13-1 victory.
UMSV is now 5-8 on the season, with conference play on the horizon.
Samantha Aviles and
Simone Caruso were standouts offensively in game one, with the duo both recording two hits each.
Carmen Henderson reached base via walks two different times, while
Paige Goerman and Miralba Sandez had one hit as well.
Paige Staley allowed just three hits in 2.2 innings while
Holly Otte threw a hitless final two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout.
The Dolphins got off to a strong start in the second leg of the afternoon.
Kayla O'Connor posted the first run of the game with an RBI single up the middle, plating Kaitlyn Trigos. Mitchell would go on a 13-0 run of their own, enough of a lead to complete the game in five innings. Goerman, O'Connor, Trigos and
Emma Capozucca would be the lone Dolphins to enter the hit column.
With 13 games in the rear view mirror, the Dolphins are set for conference play. They kick off Skyline competition on Saturday on the road against Mount Saint Mary College.
