Dolphins Come Back, Fall In Extras Against CCNY

New York, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent dropped a tough extra-inning battle to City College of New York, 13–11, after the game swung back and forth throughout Wednesday afternoon. CCNY jumped out to an early advantage, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second before plating another three runs in the third to take an 8–2 lead. The Dolphins began to chip away in the middle innings, scoring twice in the third and adding another run in the fourth to slowly close the gap.

UMSV delivered its biggest offensive push in the fifth inning. After putting runners on base, Will Granata launched a grand slam to bring the Dolphins all the way back, making it an 8-8 contest. Granata finished with a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Kyle Brindisi also paced the offense with three hits and two runs scored, while Pablo Austin added two hits and two RBI. John Anthony Spanoudakis chipped in a pair of hits and an RBI, and Tyler Margolis drove in two runs to help power the Dolphins' offense.

Both Nicholas Rodriguez and Jake Bland had strong performances on the bump for UMSV. Rodriguez allowed just one run in 2.1 innings of relief, and Bland followed with a three inning effort that saw him allow just one run on one hit and three strikeouts.

The Dolphins continued to battle late and briefly took the lead in extra innings. Austin delivered a clutch RBI double in the top half of the 10th that put Mount Saint Vincent ahead 11–10. However, the Beavers answered in the bottom of the inning with a three-run walk-off home run to end the game.

UMSV has a quick turnaround. They're back on the road tomorrow and will challenge William Paterson University.
