Riverdale, NY - All records are meant to be broken - and two UMSV lacrosse records were on Monday night.
The Dolphins challenged Cairn University on Marillac Field and walked away with a dominant win, as UMSV broke their single game scoring record in a 25-10 win over the Highlanders. The goal total topped a record set back in 2023, when the Dolphins put up 23 goals in a win over Centenary University.
There wasn't only a team record topped. Sophomore
Nigel Walker became the single game assist leader with nine on Monday as well.
The offense, clearly, fired on all cylinders in the win. 10 different Dolphins scored at least one goal, with standout freshman
Thomas Vallely scoring five.
Isaac Parsons and
Sam Hall both contributed four goals each, while
Jaylin Johnson recorded a hat trick. Following them were
Logan Charboneau (two),
Chai Dunlap(two),
Thaddeus Harris (two), Walker,
Mattias Remes and
Donte Thornhill. Parsons, Charboneau,
Jason Cardona,
Chai Dunlap and Josiah Charles-Johnson added assists.
The Dolphins as a whole took 79 total shots, with 48 reaching net.
The road to a strong offense is the possession game, and UMSV's faceoff unit once again excelled. The team went 26-37, with
Alfred Lamptey kicking things off with six wins in seven tries to go along with four ground balls.
Nathanial Simpson had arguably his best collegiate game to date, going 10-for-13 with eight ground balls. Freshman
Cal Denier was equally as impressive, earning eight victories in 13 faceoffs while tying Simpson in ground balls.
Brandon Mestres continued his standout sophomore campaign with a team-best five caused turnovers. Classmate
Jackson Taylor impressed as well, adding three of his own.
Max Mills recorded eight saves on 13 shot attempts.
The Dolphins have found their footing offensively and will look to carry the momentum into a road showdown on Saturday against Salem State.
