Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent put together a strong all-around performance in straight sets to sweep Pratt 25-16, 25-14, 25-19, showcasing its balance and depth on both offense and defense. After jumping out early in the first set, the Dolphins never looked back, riding momentum through the middle sets and closing with consistent execution from the back row to secure the victory.
The freshmen duo of Jose Dominguez and Raeden Nieves were once again the driving force behind UMSV's attack. Dominguez led all players with an impressive 14 kills, consistently finding openings and keeping the Dolphins on the front foot in every set. Nieves, meanwhile, provided excellent support in the outside role, adding nine kills of his own with a strong attack percentage. Junior middle Yestro Luciano Jr. registered four kills and an assisted block.
Freshman setter Christian Ferrer continued to step up as he orchestrated the offense with precision, racking up 32 assists while spreading the ball around to keep Pratt off balance. Ferrer tied for a team-high two service aces as well. Tyler Hanna, too, impressed in the serve game with two, while Roel Lucero paced the back row with four digs. Â
Set by set, UMSV's offense was balanced and consistent, with the Dolphins hitting a blistering .565 attack percentage in the first set. That success set the tone for the rest of the evening, as the Dolphins' combination of aggressive hitting, clean setting, and tight defense made the difference in the sweep.
Next up for UMSV is Skyline Conference play. They'll open on the road with a tough St. Joseph's University Long Island team on the horizon.
