Riverdale, NY – The University of Mount Saint Vincent is heading back to the Skyline Conference Championship for the fourth consecutive year after earning a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory over Farmingdale State College on Wednesday evening in the Skyline Conference semifinal.
After 90 minutes of scoreless action, junior Nadine Padilla delivered the game-winner just 2:08 into overtime. Sophomore Ariana Hernandez set up the decisive goal, finding Padilla for her third goal of the season to send the Dolphins into celebration.
Senior Kaitlyn Grady anchored the defensive effort, turning aside all five shots on goal to record the shutout. Senior Gisselle Soria and sophomore Michelle Zuniga each recorded two shots, while Hernandez added two attempts and the game-winning assist. Padilla finished with one shot, which proved to be the difference.
The Dolphins held Farmingdale State to eight total shots, including five on goal, while generating six attempts of their own. Grady's five saves helped preserve the clean sheet before Padilla's overtime strike secured the victory.
With the win, UMSV advances to the Skyline Conference Championship for the fourth straight season. They're set to challenge Sarah Lawrence College on Marillac Field this Saturday, with a scheduled kickoff for noon.
