Patchogue, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent team rallied from a second-half deficit to earn a 2-1 Skyline Conference victory at St. Joseph's University Long Island on Tuesday night. The contest was the first played between both sides since the conference final in Riverdale just under one year ago.
After a scoreless opening half, UMSV fell behind in the 60th minute before junior Jose Gonzalez evened the scoreboard for the Dolphins at 67:36. Freshman Justin Sorto continued the strong start to his first collegiate season, delivering the game-winner laser of a shot off his left foot in the 77th minute, finishing off a pass from Marti Senyer to give UMSV the edge.
The Dolphins finished with nine shots, including four on goal, while Miguel Fierro made five saves to help preserve the victory. Yahir Tafoya recorded three shots, while Senyer and Manuel Vidal added two apiece.
With the win, UMSV improves to 6-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in Skyline Conference play. They'll resume play on Saturday on the road when they head back to Long Island to challenge Farmingdale State.
