Dolphins Keep Pace With Valiants, Fall Short On Road

Purchase, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent put up a strong fight on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough to overcome a tough Manhattanville University team. The Dolphins fell to the Valiants by the score of 65-57, dropping their season record to 2-13 on the season.

Despite the end result, head coach Maria Di Domenico saw positives from her roster. Junior Michaela Ligon led all Dolphins with a career-high 15 points on six-of-10 shooting to go along with four rebounds, three steals and an assist. Graduate student Ashley Marrocco continued her strong play with 12 points of her own while senior Julia Angeles knocked down 80% of her field goal attempts while adding a team-best eight boards.

UMSV started hot and ended hot, shooting 50% from the floor in both the first and fourth quarters. Ligon was the catalyst, scoring six of her 15 points in the first quarter alone. The Dolphins kept pace in the second quarter, with baskets from Marrocco and Grace Kennedy at two different points helped cut the deficit to just three points. Despite this the Valiants entered halftime with an eight point edge.

Manhattanville would extend their lead to double figures for the duration of the third quarter. That deficit was too much to overcome, despite the Dolphins eventually getting within single digits.

UMSV will look to right the ship at home on Saturday against St. Joseph's University Long Island.
