Throggs Neck, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent kicked off their 2025 Skyline Conference schedule on the right foot.
The Dolphins took the close road trip to Throggs Neck to challenge Maritime and had an overall impressive outing, as seven different goal scorers helped propel UMSV to a dominant 10-1 win over the Privateers. The end result improved the program's overall record to 3-1-1.
Junior striker
Eva Puentes once again made her presence felt. Just three days after recording a first half hat trick over CCNY, the Garwood, New Jersey native entered the stat sheet immediately. She first set up teammate
Victoria Gamarra for the first goal of the game, with Gamarra connecting on a shot that bounced off the post but rolled behind the Privateers goalkeeper. Puentes would then make it a two goal edge when she scored from nearly 20 yards out just seven minutes later. Sophomore
Ima Kellerman went on to be credited with the helper.
The scoring didn't stop after those two goals. The Dolphins would score two more before halftime - one off the foot of
Aiyanna Robles Sedano at the 18 minute mark, and then from
Shayla Hassler, who connected on a header for her first goal of the season. Gamarra and freshman
Ariana Hernandez each received assists on the goals.
The barrage of points didn't stop at the break. Gamarra would record another goal at the tail end of the second half, while
Brittany Boyle,
Kadence Gonzalez,
Jasmine Hewitt and
Emily Legler (two) would each convert their first shot attempts this season.
Javiera Sanchez did not face one shot on goal in the first half. Both
Kaitlyn Grady and Ella de Kruyf would split time in the second half, with Grady recording a save.
The Dolphins outshot Maritime 43-2, as the defense - led by
Cameron Cruz,
Dana DeDominicis,
Maddie Halford and
Gisselle Soria - allowed just one shot in each half.
UMSV returns to the road this coming Wednesday, with the Dolphins set to challenge the United States Merchant Marine Academy in King's Point.
