Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's strong non-conference schedule picked up on Marillac Field on Tuesday, this time playing host to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with the hopes of picking up their second win of the season.
The Dolphins and Engineers went toe-to-toe all game long, with the sides settling on a 0-0 tie when time expired.
The result put UMSV at an even 1-1-1 through three games thus far.
Despite the tough opposition, the Dolphins were not only up for the challenge, but embraced it. UMSV out-shot RPI 6-3 in the first half, with transfer sophomore
Aiyanna Robles Sedano accounting for two of them. Both the Tolland, Connecticut native and senior
Molly Rowland came close on shot attempts to keep the pressure on the Engineers.
The Dolphins also routinely won the possession battle over the first 45 minutes of action, with all 11 players on the field doing a tremendous job keeping the ball out of their own zone.
RPI picked up their intensity on the offensive end in the second half, and it was met by a stout Dolphins defense.
Cameron Cruz,
Dana DeDominicis and
Gisselle Soria reprised their roles as strong veteran defenders, while first year Dolphins Kerrigym Lynam and
Hannah Mejia each impressed in their home debuts.
UMSV didn't falter on offense, either, as Cruz,
Jasmine Hewitt and
Eva Puentes each had chances to give their team the lead.
Senior goalkeeper
Javiera Sanchez pitched her first shutout of the season, this time picking up three saves.
The Dolphins return to action in just under 24 hours, as they once again step foot on Marillac. They're set to take on the City College of New York in a final tuneup before Skyline play with kickoff set for 7 PM.
