Riverdale, NY - For the fourth time this season, the University of Mount Saint Vincent took their home pitch on Marillac Field. And for the fourth time this season, the Dolphins emerged victorious.
UMSV looked to close out their non-conference slate with a win on Saturday afternoon when they challenged reigning CUNYAC champions Hunter College. The Dolphins were impressive on both sides of the ball, as a combination of finesse and physicality catapulted the team to a 2-0 victory over the Hawks.
UMSV is now 4-0 to start the year with Skyline Conference play just around the corner.
While it took a little while for UMSV to get on the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying. The Dolphins outshot the Hawks 14-7 throughout the first half, five of which reached net. It wasn't until the 35th minute when Brandon Leon's shot attempt found the back of the net, giving the Dolphins an edge with halftime near.
UMSV would carry the momentum into the second half, and a penalty in the box would help put the team up for good. Junior Sebastian Mesa charged toward the net and was fouled by the Hawks, with Javier Trujullio getting a shot at the penalty kick. The Rio Rancho, New Mexico native buried the attempt for his third goal of the season to close out the contest.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Samuel Reine pitched his third shutout in as many games, bringing his goals against average to 0.86 in four games.
The Dolphins will receive a well deserved layoff this week and will pick things up next Saturday on the road against Maritime.
