Baseball Falls To Purchase As Playoffs Near

Purchase, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent took on Purchase College on Friday, looking to continue their ascension up the standings with the Skyline Conference postseason on the horizon. It was a tough afternoon for the Dolphins, as they fell in both games to the Panthers, first by the score of 4-3 and then 13-4. The Dolphins are now 9-9 in conference play, good for the seventh spot in the standings.

Standout junior Will Granata was the source of offense for UMSV in game one. The first baseman got things going right away, driving home Dom Porto and Jason Albert with a two-RBI single in the first inning. The Panthers would even the game with runs in the third and fifth innings, with junior starter Jake Bland impressing with a two run, five strikeout performance across 4.2 innings. Granata would add his third RBI of the day with a sixth inning single to give his team a late lead.

Reliever Michael Iocco struck out three in the final inning, but Purchase would go on to plate two runs to take the permanent lead.

Granata and Albert each added RBI to their season stat line in game two while Zach Turko led the way with a pair of hits.

The Dolphins will have the opportunity to get back into playoff contention on Sunday when they travel to King's Point to take on the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
