Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins opened conference play on the right foot.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent welcomed St. Joseph's University Long Island to Riverdale on Wednesday evening, kicking off the Skyline Conference slate for both programs. The Dolphins found their way back in the win column, pushing their overall record to 4-5 on the year while tying their season-opening performance against Albertus Magnus College for the most goals scored in a game this year with 18.
UMSV got off to a hot start less than a minute into the game. The Dolphins received a man-up opportunity at the 14:30 mark and took immediate advantage, as junior attackman
Isaac Parsons buried his first shot of the game to put his team up by one. The team would go on to rattle off four more unanswered goals,
Chai Dunlap,
Nigel Walker and
Sam Hall each scoring while Parsons added his second of the evening, extending UMSV's advantage to five at the mark in the first.
The offense would continue to roll throughout the first half. Parsons, Dunlap, Walker and Hall, as well as
Ryan Jean-Pharuns would combine to score seven goals before the break. The defense was equally as impressive, with defenders
Brandon Mestres (three) and
Walker Moore (two) causing five turnovers while
Ethan Fajardo and
Leland Perez would add to the team tallies as well.
The second half saw the offense slow down but the defense pick up their efforts. UMSV would outscore the Golden Eagles just 5-4 in the second half, with goalkeeper
Max Mills impressing with 13 saves on 17 shots faced. Defenders
Jake Luxoro and
Jackson Taylor added a caused turnover each to their season stat line. Standout freshman
Elvis Prempeh got on the board in the fourth quarter with his lone goal of the contest while Walker, Hall and Jean-Pharuns continued their barrage into the final 30 minutes of action.
Walker had what may be the best performance of his young career. The New Rochelle, New York native tallied six goals with an assist in the victory. Parsons added four goals and two helpers of his own while Hall recorded a hat trick. Dunlap collected four points (two goals and two assists) while
Alfred Lamptey was an absolute menace on the face-off dot. The sophomore FOGO wowed with 21 ground balls while going 25-for-31 in the faceoff category, continuously setting up the offense all game long.
The Dolphins will look to carry the momentum into their matchup against Mount Saint Mary College on April 5.
