Dolphins Drop Three Sets to Panthers

Box Score Riverdale, NY - After three straight matches on the road, the University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team returned to the Sharp Center on Tuesday evening for a conference match against Purchase College. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, the visiting Panthers were too much to overcome.

UMSV put up a fight in the first set, but would ultimately fall short 25-16. Graduate student Felix Paulino and sophomore Yestro Luciano Jr. strung together key plays to keep things close, but the Panthers responded with consecutive runs to put the set out of the Dolphins' reach.

The Dolphins picked up the pace in the second, going on a 7-0 run to give them their first lead at 17-15. Both teams went on to exchange leads, with UMSV holding their final advantage at 21-20. However, a late surge by Purchase allowed them to take the set 25-22.

The third set was highlighted by another dominant run from UMSV that cut the Panthers' lead to just one. It was graduate student James Rose who got the Dolphins going with a strong kill off an assist from Paulino. Purchase, however, secured the victory at 25-18.

Senior Olatomiwa Ibitayo paced the Dolphins with 10 kills, 4 blocks, and 4 digs. Freshman Terrence Short impressed with 6 kills and 5 digs, while Rose added 7 kills and 6 digs. Paulino finished with 25 assists and 11 digs and Luciano Jr. had 4 blocks, 4 digs, and 3 kills.

The Dolphins will look to get back in the win column on Thursday, March 27, when they take on Ramapo College.
