Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dolphins' Season Ends with First Round Loss to Gryphons

Bronxville, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team made the short trip to Sarah Lawrence College for the first round of the Skyline Conference Tournament on Tuesday evening. The seventh-seeded Dolphins put up a fight against the number two Gryphons but ultimately fell short, 79-68, bringing their season to an end.

The Gryphons saw an early 7-2 lead, but the Dolphins were able to respond with the help of freshman Blake Salice-Mitchell, senior Kevin Agyemang, and graduate student DJ Tucker. A three pointer from Agyemang put the Dolphins up by one and gave them the first lead they would see. It was a back-and-forth battle as both teams would go on to exchange baskets until the Dolphins stayed ahead in the final eight minutes, securing a 43-35 lead at halftime.

UMSV maintained their lead the entire second half until free throws from the Gryphons tied things up with 6:22 left to play. The Dolphins immediately answered with a three pointer from Tucker, but the home team would then convert on two consecutive possessions putting them up by one. A layup from Agyemang put the Dolphins back on top, until a 10-0 run by Sarah Lawrence gave them a 71-62 lead with three minutes on the clock. Four straight points from transfer Josiah Basket made the score 71-66 with 1:16 remaining. However, the Dolphins were forced to foul, and the Gryphons executed perfectly from the free-throw line to seal their 11-point victory.

Agyemang wrapped up his Dolphins career with an impressive stat line, recording 18 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Basket finished with 18 points as well, along with 7 rebounds and a pair of assists. Tucker also impressed in his final game for UMSV with 10 points, 7 assists and 4 rebounds. Meanwhile, transfer Max DePina closed out his first year with the Dolphins with 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Though a tough loss for the Dolphins, the future is promising with Basket, DePina, and Salice-Mitchell returning next season. Additionally with Eric Woodberry, Alex Chi, Gerard Novello, Louis Vidal, and Aidan McCahey, next season will be one to look out for.
