Chi Shines In Return As Dolphins Lose Last Minute Lead

New York, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent had a week to recoup over Thanksgiving, as they looked to capture their first win of the season on the road against Hunter College. The Dolphins had one of their better games to date, with both teams jockeying for the lead in the waning minutes of the contest. The Hawks, however, got their final basket to fall, resulting in a 62-60 victory on their home floor.

The Dolphins are now 0-6 through their first six games this season.

Junior Alex Chi made his season debut, and his offensive firepower was a much-needed boost to UMSV. The Staten Island native tied for a team-high 28 minutes played, leading the way with 13 points while also pacing the Dolphins with nine rebounds. Chi also added two assists and a steal to his first stat line of the year.

Two sophomores in Aidan McCahey and Eric Woodberry joined Chi for the team lead with 13 points each. Woodberry had a strong overall performance, with five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block, while McCahey knocked down 60% of his three point attempts to go along with three assists. Jack Hayward came off the bench and added nine points, four boards and a steal while Louis Vidal had five points, five rebounds and four assists of his own.

The Dolphins took advantage of Hunter's shortcomings, as they led the way in both points off turnovers and second chance points while besting the Hawks in rebounds and steals. The team, however, also shot just 34% from the floor for the game, compared to 39% from the opposition.

UMSV started off strong, seeing their lead reach eight points midway through the first half. The Hawks, however, would turn the tide and enter halftime up eight points of their own.

After falling behind by double digits, the Dolphins slowly crawled back into the contest. A McCahey three would cut the lead to seven points at the 9:12 mark, and was followed by a caused turnover, resulting in a Woodberry layup. Woodberry would continue to shine offensively, going on a personal six point run, including a pair of free throws and an offensive rebound tip-in, bringing the score to 58-56 with just over four minutes to go.

Joel Gado's layup made it a one possession game, and his defensive rebound off the Haweks miss helped set up a Chi jumper that tied the game at 60 points. While the Hawks took the lead with 24 seconds to go, the Dolphins had one last look to send the game to overtime. Unfortunately, a turnover ended the team's hopes for a victory.

The Dolphins remain on the road and are set to challenge Five Towns College this Thursday.
