Riverdale, NY - After an opening season road trip to SUNY Oswego, the University of Mount Saint Vincent were home for the first time this season, taking on Delaware State University in non-conference action. The Dolphins had a tough time against the Aggies, as they dropped the contest by the score of 87-62.
UMSV is now 0-3 in their first three games this season.
Sophomore
Eric Woodberry was the team's go to offensive weapon for the Dolphins. The Greenburgh, New York native led the team with 25 points, including going an impressive four-for-five from beyond the arc. Transfer junior
Joel Gado grabbed 10 rebounds with six points, while sophomore Aidan McMahey added five points, five assists and four boards before fouling out in the waning minutes of the contest. Senior
Gerard Novello finished with eight points and four assists of his own.
The Dolphins fell into an early hole, trailing by 12 points before getting a basket to fall. The team would come back and score six straight points, with Woodberry,
Liam Brennan and
James Bolton all chipping in on that end of the floor. DVU would answer right back and see their lead reach double digits by the latter half of the first and would take a 24 point lead into the locker room.
Despite shooting nearly 47% from the floor in the second half, the Dolphins struggled defensively, and the Aggies capitalized often. Despite putting together a hard fought effort, UMSV couldn't climb out of the hole they were put in before time expired.
The team returns to Sharp on Wednesday, where they'll look to pick up their first win of the season against Lehman.
