Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent continued their winning ways on Saturday - and jumped a Skyline rival in the standings along the way.
The Dolphins welcomed Mount Saint Mary College to Marillac Field on Saturday, in a battle between teams ranked third and fourth in the conference standings. A 4-0 victory at the hands of UMSV swapped the programs in the rankings, as the Dolphins now sport a 5-1-1 conference record with just four Skyline contests left on the schedule.
The Dolphins controlled the pace early and often, and it didn't take long before the team got on the board. UMSV doubled up the Knights in total shots over the first 20 minutes of play, and the Dolphins' seventh of the half would be the difference. Breakout junior
Eva Puentes got things going, as the Garwood, New Jersey native dribbled her way through multiple MSMC defenders before finding a sitting
Ariana Hernandez, who was situated in the top-middle of the box. The freshman took the ball with her left foot, turned and fired a strike passed the Knights keeper to give her team the early advantage.
Just 75 seconds later, the aforementioned connection continued, but in reverse. This time, sophomore
Kerrigyn Lynam found Hernandez, who made a quick touch pass to a streaking Puentes who then recorded her team leading eighth goal of 2025 to extend the team's lead to two.
Jazzlyn Cedillo was next to get her team back on the board. The Lakewood, California forward scored on an eye-popping shot, one that she took from over 30 yards out that was perfectly placed over the opposing goalkeepers reach. The final tally of the game also came in the first half when Puentes was in the right place at the right time as she collected the rebound from a saved shot off the foot of classmate
Lily Ostiguy to put the game out of reach for good.
The Dolphins defense, led by
Cameron Cruz, Dana DeDomincis,
Maddie Halford and
Hannah Mejia, were stout in front of goalkeeper
Javiera Sanchez. The team as a whole let up just four shots on goal, all of which came in the second half.
Kaitlyn Grady played in the final 45 minutes of action and recorded all four saves.
UMSV will be right back at home on Thursday for a make-up matchup with Lehman College.
