Box Score Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent looked to capitalize on a big victory over St. Joseph's University Long Island last week when they challenged Purchase College inside the Sharp Center on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins did just that, as they dominated both ends of the floor to cruise to a 72-46 win.
UMSV is now 7-5 in conference play, good for fifth place in the Skyline standings.
The Dolphins outscored the Panthers in each of the four quarters, including a 28-point second quarter that saw UMSV shoot 61% from the floor, including going two-of-five from three point range. Transfer
Ashley Marrocco specifically impressed over that span, scoring seven of her 10 points while guard
Erin Smith knocked down 10 points of her own.
Smith would once again be the go-to talent offensively for head coach
Maria Nardulli. The Goshen, New York native led all scorers with 19 points to go along with five rebounds, three assists and a steal. Team captain
JaKaia Lotz was a force for the Dolphins, as her 12 point, 10 rebound performance was the first double double of the season. Marrocco also finished in double figures with 10 points while
Gretta Baker recorded seven points and six boards.
Kayla Hanley was all over the box score with six assists, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks, with the assists, steals and blocks totals coming in as a team high.
The Dolphins will be right back at it at home on Tuesday. UMSV will challenge Yeshiva University as the team looks to continue to climb the conference standings.
