Dolphins Drop Two Road Contests To Baruch

New Rochelle, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's softball team concluded the non-conference portion of their schedule on Tuesday afternoon when they challenged local rival Baruch College in a pair of games. The Bearcats got the better of the Dolphins in both showdowns, winning game one by the score of 4-1 and followed that up with a 6-2 victory. The results put UMSV's overall record at 7-22, with only conference play remaining on their 2024 slate.

The Dolphins started off as well as they could, as they would jump out to an early lead before Baruch had an at-bat. Aaliyah Dejesus continued her strong first season as a Dolphin when she drove home sophomore Nichole Reyes on a sacrifice bunt. Unfortunately for UMSV, that's all the offense they would generate in game one. The team would total just two hits, one from Dejesus and another from senior Kaitlin Cirillo. Sophomore Mila Gutierrez pitched a complete game for head coach Kevin Carbon and struck out three with four earned runs in five innings.

The Dolphins saw an uptick in their offensive performance in game two, but so did the Bearcats. Gutierrez and freshman Kayla O'Conner would lead UMSV with two hits apiece, but an early hole was too much for the Dolphins to overcome. They tried their best in the bottom of the fifth when both Cirillo and freshman Paige Goerman collected RBI, which would cut the deficit in half. Baruch, however, would tack on two more runs to walk away victorious.

Despite losing, Emily Cardenas struck out five in her outing, giving her 22 in 27.1 innings this year.

The Dolphins return to Skyline action on Sunday morning with a double header against Yeshiva on the horizon.
