Dolphins Open Skyline Play With Sweep Over Yeshiva

Palisades Park, NJ - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team opened their Skyline Conference slate in a major way on Tuesday evening, as the Dolphins would combine to score 52 runs across two games against Yeshiva University, en route to a sweep of the Maccabees. The Dolphins saw all nine hitters in the starting lineup record at least one hit and saw a smiliar results in the back-end of the double header. The wins put UMSV at 2-0 in conference play ahead of their Spring Break trip this coming weekend. 

The Dolphins got things going immediately, taking an early lead in the first inning. Their first run was highlighted by key moments from Dom Porto and Jason Albert, as Porto singled and stole two bases before Albert would drive him home. The momentum carried into the following inning, when the Dolphins plated five additional runs. This time it was Drew Knight, Joey DiNorcia, Peter Pannullo and Johnny Brucato, in addition to Albert, who helped generate the offense. 

Power was the name of the game for the Dolphins. Between the final five innings, the Dolphins would have five extra base hits, highlighted by home runs from Porto, DiNorcia and Brucato, while Knight and freshman Zach Turko had three combined triples. It was a big day for Knight, who not only led the Dolphins with four hits but also had a team-high four RBI. Porto and Brucato had three hits apiece while the duo, combined with Albert and DiNorcia, each drove in two runs. 

Senior Sean Kennedy allowed six runs on five hits while striking out seven in three innings of work. Freshman Tyler Kropp saw his second stint of game action and scattered one run and two hits across four innings while adding a pair of strikeouts. 
 

UMSV once again jumped on Yeshiva's pitching early and often. Porto doubled to open the contest, with Knight driving him home just two batters later. The Dolphins showcased their speed in the second when Stephen Marinez, Joshua McCormick, Nikolas Mace and Eric Zimemrmann combined for five stolen bases while Knight, Brucato, Marinez and Andrew Farina collected RBI.

It was a tremendous effort for the Dolphins offense. This time, the team would account for 13 extra base hits, including a home run from Marinez and three triples from McCormick, who went a perfect 5-for-5 in game two. Marinez and Farina paced the team with four RBI each while Porto added three stolen bases to his stat line. 

Joe Decandia dominated on the mound in game two with nine strikeouts in just four innings. Aidan Cardenas, Michael Iocco and Ivan Navarro would combine for five strikeouts in the final three innings. 

The Dolphins look ahead to their trip down south, with games against the University of Mary Washington next up.
