Dolphins Return To Win Column With Victory Over Ramapo

Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team found their way back into the win column on Saturday, defeating non-conference foe Ramapo College by the score of 14-10. The Dolphins and Roadrunners traded leads throughout the first half, but a strong overall performance from UMSV in the final 30 minutes of action propelled the team to victory. The win is the team's second through six games thus far in the 2024 season.

The Roadrunners kicked off the action within the first minute of play, but the Dolphins would respond quickly. Sophomore transfer Ella Meberg crashed the net after a strong pass from junior Macey Forg to tie the game at one at the nine minute mark. Ramapo would answer, but so, too, would UMSV. After trailing 2-1, head coach Meaghan Smith's offense started firing on all cylinders. After Meberg converted her second shot attempt of the game, Alyssa LaTorre and Alicia Rodriguez would carry the ball all by themselves and score one goal each, making it a 4-2 game in favor of the Dolphins after one.

The back-and-forth would continue in the second quarter. Despite the Dolphins being outscored by one over that span, LaTorre would score her second goal of the game before Laziza Azimova would clear the ball from her own zone and take it to the house for the second score of her collegiate career. Transfer sophomore Makenna Reekie had a tremendous game in net, none better than the second quarter, when she made six saves on the nine shots that reached her.

The Dolphins would go on an offensive tear halfway through the third and into the fourth. Meberg, Forg, Rodriguez and freshman Casey Mulvey would combine for six consecutive goals, leading the way to the team's second win of the year.

For the Dolphins, it was Rodriguez who once again showed out. The reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Year racked up six goals, one assist, nine draw controls, six ground balls and four caused turnovers in the victory. Sophomore Dana DeDominicis and freshman Brittany Boyle combined for six ground balls while Boyle and LaTorre had a pair of caused turnovers each. Reekie finished the game with 13 saves.

The Dolphins have a road contest on the horizon. They'll travel to Montclair State University this Saturday to take on the Red Hawks at 10 AM.
