UMSV got things going quickly. The team took the lead with less than three minutes expired off the stick of Isaac Parsons, a goal that was assisted by Jacob Cochran. Freshman Chai Dunlap extended UMSV's lead with another goal, assisted by Mustapha Daffeh, making it 2-0.
The Ravens would quickly answer, going on a two-goal run of their own across a three minute span. The game would become a back and forth affair for the remainder of the period. Dunlap would score his second of the before Parsons and fellow attackman Rene Alamo would get on the board, making it 5-3 UMSV after one.
The game would turn into a defensive showdown in the second quarter. While Parsons picked up another goal and Ryan Jean-Pharuns recorded his second point of the game, the defense would allow just one goal in the final 15 minutes before halftime. The unit of Adrian Guillermo, Walker Moore, Chris Meenan and Jake Luxoro would impress throughout all four quarters, but the quartet would specifically shine in the second, as Luxoro picked up three of his five caused turnovers while Moore would add one himself.
The Dolphins would score seven of the next nine goals in the game kicking off the second half, with Dunlap, Alamo, Cochran, Daffeh, Ethan Fajardo and Donte Thornhill picking up points. The Dolphins would outscore the Ravens 5-1 in the final period, giving the team enough cushion to walk away victorious.
The freshman Dunlap led the way with five goals, in addition to three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Parsons would record a hat trick of his own while Alamo had five points in the win. Daffeh helped generate UMSV's offense with 18 faceoff wins in 27 tries to go along with his goal, assist and team-best 11 ground balls. Guillermo and Luxoro would finish with five combined caused turnovers while Guillermo also added a pair of assists. The aforementioned defensive unit also combined for 14 ground balls while being focal points in the clearing game. Mark Luljgeraj had a bounce-back performance with eight saves.
It'll be a quick turnaround for UMSV, as they welcome SUNY-Delhi to town on Sunday.
