Dolphins Top Maccabees To Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

New York, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent made their way to Manhattan on Wednesday evening, taking on Skyline powerhouse Yeshiva University for a chance to keep their playff hopes alive. The Dolphins did just that, breaking an 11 game losing streak to the Maccabees that has spanned since December of 2017, as they left Furst Gymnasium winners by the score of 82-74. The victory gave UMSV their eighth in 15 games against conference competition, with the team's playoff hopes remaining in tact heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The Dolphins had a terrific offensive outing against a strong Maccabees squad, shooting over 50% from the floor in each of the game's two halves. The defense, meanwhile, limited Yeshiva to making just 13 of their 41 first half shot attempts while causing five turnovers over that span. Yeshiva turned the tide in the second half, opening the period with a 9-0 run while eventually seeing their lead reach 12 points. At that point, it was UMSV's turn, as they would continuously chip away starting at the 12:15 mark before the Maccabees would see their lead go back to eight points. Alex Chi, Adrian Rraci and Kevin Agyemang would each make two pointers in consecutive possessions, which was followed by a Joshua Cabezudo jumper that would tie the game at 68 points. Cabezudo would go on an 8-0 run of his own, including two conversions from beyond the arc, that would lead the team to victory.

The senior guard finished with an incredibly efficient night, scoring 23 points on eight-of-12 shooting, including making four shots from three out of five tries. The Perth Amboy, New Jersey native added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win. Kevin Agyemang continued his offensive hot streak on Wednesday, leading the team with 24 points of his own. DJ Tucker (15 points) and Chi (10 points) also finished in double figures while Rraci and Connor Wein combined for nine boards.

The Dolphins close out their regular season against St. Joseph's University Long Island on Saturday as they look to clinch a playoff berth for the second time in as many seasons.
