Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dolphins Fall In Second Straight Skyline Contest To Rams

Farmingdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team was back on the road for Skyline Conference action, this time out on Long Island against Farmingdale State College. It was a back and forth affair all evening, but it was the Rams who would walk away winners, topping the Dolphins by the score of 61-55.

UMSV fell to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Skyline play.

The Dolphins saw three different players finish in double figures on Tuesday evening. Graduate student Erin Smith continued her ascension to the top of the UMSV roster, as she would lead the team with 15 points to go along with four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Her scoring mark pushes her average to 18.4 points per game, good for first on the team and second among all Skyline student-athletes.

Junior captain JaKaia Lotz had an efficient night for head coach Maria Nardulli, as the forward scored 11 points on 50% shooting while pulling down six boards. Fellow captain Kayla Hanley added 10 points of her own, in addition to a season-high seven rebounds. Sophomore transfer Sharon Brown had a strong performance on both ends of the court, as she registered seven points and six rebounds while swiping a team-best four steals. Junior Julia Angeles grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while recording the Dolphins' only block.

UMSV held a steady lead in the first quarter before trailing over the next three. The team did, however, mount an impressive fourth quarter comeback, one that saw the team overcome a nine-point deficit to tie the game at 48 apiece with less than seven minutes in regulation. The run was generated by four points and a steal from Smith, as well as a big three pointer from transfer AB Burnett. A steal and layup by Hanley made it a one possession game with just 39 seconds on the clock, but clutch free throw shooting by the Rams stifled UMSV's comeback attempt.

The Dolphins will have a three day break for the holiday before hosting John Jay College in the team's 2024-25 home opener, one that will see the UMSV athletics department honor the 2023-24 Skyline Conference Championship team with a pregame ring ceremony and banner unveiling.
