Riverdale, NY - The result may have not been what the Dolphins wanted, but they went down swinging.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent hosted Farmingdale State College on Wednesday evening against a Rams team that boasts the top record in the Skyline Conference. UMSV fell to Farmingdale in consecutive sets (25-15, 25-10, 25-23) but put up a strong effort ahead of yet another tough Skyline matchup coming this weekend.
Fifth-year hitter
Melanieann Broderick led the way for the Dolphins in the kills column with six, giving her 111 in the 2024 season.
The thid set saw head coach
Joseph Chojnacki's squad put up a tremendous fight. They opened the set with three straight points, thanks to a service ace from
Reilly Nichtern and a kill from Broderick. They'd regain the lead at the 6-4 mark when freshman
Sophia Madalakis recorded her third kill. UMSV would storm back after trailing 19-12, rattling off six straight points to cut it t one. Over that span, Nichtern and Madalakis would be the driving forces behind the scores.
Sophomore
JaKaia Lotz ranked second behind Broderick with four kills while Nichtern led the way with seven digs. Freshman
Paige Staley had a standout performance of her own, recording a team-best nine assists while adding four digs and a kill. Broderick would also pace the Dolphins in service aces (four) and blocks (two).
Next up for the Dolphins is the United States Merchant Marine Academy, who will head to Riverdale on Saturday for a noon start time.
