Riverdale, NY - The Dolphins had a tough go against Skyline Conference competition on Tuesday evening.
The Dolphins hosted Sarah Lawrence College in the team's second conference matchup of the 2024 season and looked to even their Skyline mark to 1-1. Unfortunately for UMSV, the Gryphons had other plans, as they walked away winners in straight sets by the scores of 25-9, 25-23, 25-9.
The loss puts UMSV at 3-8 through 11 matches.
It was once again
JaKaia Lotz who led the way in kills for the Dolphins, as she continues to rise the ranks as one of the team's top hitters. The sophomore registered eight kills, with fifth-year hitter
Melanieann Broderick adding seven to her season totals. Sophomore
Dominique Otranto added three of her own while
Lydia Aryee and
Samantha Rapp had two apiece.
Speaking of Aryee, the senior led the way for UMSV in both assists (16) and digs (10). Freshman
Sophia Madalakis impressed on her home floor with two service aces to go along with 1.5 blocks while
Emma Contes and
Paige Staley combined for six digs of their own.
The second set saw the Dolphins and Gryphons trade leads, with UMSV having the advantage at thr 18-17 mark when Broderick took home the kill off a strong pass from Staley. A Lotz kill would tie things up at 23 points before Sarah Lawrence connected on two straight hits.
UMSV will now turn their attention to Mount Saint Mary's. They'll travel to Newburgh to take on the Knights on Thursday.
