Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dolphins Come From Behind To Defeat Old Westbury On Road

Old Westbury, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team remains undefeated in 2024, as the Dolphins took the road to Long Island and walked away with a 79-70 win over the Old Westbury Panthers on Saturday afternoon. The victory is the second straight one against Skyline Conference foes, putting UMSV's record at 3-2 through five games. That mark puts the Dolphins third in the Skyline's gold division, sitting just behind Yeshiva University and Purchase College.

It was a hard fought win for James Mooney and his team. The Dolphins struggled throughout the first half, as they saw Old Westbury score on 68% of their shot attempts, good for 47-42 lead at the break. Despite their offensive success, the Dolphins were able to claw back from a double-digit deficit, thanks in large part to a tremendous first half from DJ Tucker, who scored 12 of his 17 points over that span.

The Dolphins offense saw an uptick in the second half, as four teammates would join Tucker in double figures. UMSV's defense would also step up, as they would force 10 Panthers turnovers over the final 20 minutes of play, a big reason behind the victory.

Junior transfer Kevin Agyemang would put together the best offensive performance of his young UMSV career, as he would score a season-best 22 points, including 14 in the second half. Senior Adrian Rraci and freshman Connor Wein would score 10 points apiece, and in addition to Tucker's 17, he would add six assists and four rebounds. Joshua Cabezudo, known to the Dolphins as their top scorer, served as a strong facilitator in the win. The Perth Amboy, New Jersey native would post a team-best seven assists while also grabbing seven boards and three steals to go along with 15 points.

The Dolphins will look to keep their winning streak alive when Manhattanville College comes to Riverdale on Wednesday afternoon.
