Riverdale, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team was back in Riverdale on Wednesday evening, looking to pick up their fourth Skyline Conference win over the last five games. Farmingdale State College, the top team in the Black division, were too tough of a matchup to overcome for the Dolphins, as the Rams walked away with the 92-78 victory. The loss put UMSV at 7-11 overall this season, including a 5-4 record against the Skyline.
It was a tough night for a Dolphins team that has impressed in the new year, as Farmingdale led by double-digits for a majority of the evening affair. UMSV did their best to crawl back in the first half, as a pair of
Alex Chi free throws made it a 10 points game, with a
DJ Tucker three in the following possession cutting it to single digits.
The Dolphins continued their push on both ends of the floor when
Joshua Cabezudo recorded a block and followed it up with a driving layup, bringing the score to 25-20. Chi and Tucker would both answer Rams scores, keeping the deficit at five points with just over six minutes to go in the half. Farmingdale, however, would answer with a 20-5 run of their own to close out the half.
Despite the overall struggles,
James Mooney saw impressive hustle from his bench, as
Louis Vidal,
Frank Camastro,
Gerard Novello,
Elijah Benbow,
Derrick Holley and George Villegas would close out the game in an active manner both offensively and defensively.
Tucker would lead all scorers with an impressive 22 points to to along with six rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Chi would also finish in double figures with 13 points of his own while Vidal added 11 points, three boards and a steal in limited minutes.
The string of conference games continues into the weekend when the Dolphins take on Maritime College in Throggs Neck.
