Box Score Brooklyn, NY - The University of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team kicked off the new era in Riverdale with a win, as the Dolphins secured their first victory under University status in a road matchup against Skyline Conference rival St. Joseph's University Brooklyn. The Dolphins' success carried over from 2023, as the team has walked away winners in eight of their 10 games this season, including four of five wins against the conference.
The Dolphins closed out the first quarter up eight points, propelling them in a game in which they never lost their lead. A driving force behind UMSV's win was their success at the free throw line, as the Dolphins knocked down 85% of their chances. They paced the Bears in nearly all major statistical categories, including rebounds (59-35), assists (23-20), bench points (39-9) and fast break points (16-13) among others.
The win also saw the return of All-Conference guard
Amber Been. The senior, who has been dealing with a knee injury throughout the first half of the season, walked away with four points, five rebounds and five assists in limited minutes.
Maria Nardulli's team had five different players score in double figures. Graduate student
Kira Villegas continues to close out her career in Riverdale in style as she recorded a double-double with 16 points and 14 boards while adding five assists and three steals. Sophomore transfer
Magan Jackson led UMSV in scoring with 17 points on 50% shooting while fellow transfer
JaKaia Lotz added 14 points with eight rebounds.
Sofia Marcos came off the bench 12 points while
