Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's volleyball team took their home court for the first time in the 2023, facing off against John Jay College in a local matchup. It was a fantastic battle, with the Dolphins and Bloodhounds reaching five sets before John Jay walked away with the win. CMSV is now 0-2 to kick off their current campaign.
The Peter Jay Sharp Center crowd was in full force for the opener, and the Dolphins fed off their energy in a major way. Four separate Dolphins, including senior
Melanieann Broderick and freshmen
Adelina Elezaj,
Jocelyn Castro and
Dominique Otranto each registered kills as they went on to take the set by five points.
After the Bloodhounds emerged victorious in sets two and three, the momentum swung back in CMSV's favor. Broderick and fellow senior
Elizabeth Flores took turns providing offense, with the duo taking home three kills apiece. The fifth set kicked off as a back and forth affair before John Jay left Riverdale winners of the contest.
Broderick paced the Dolphins with 10 kills while Flores wasn't too far behind with nine of her own. Fellow senior
Isabella Garcia led the way in both service aces (two) and digs (18). The talented freshmen class continued to shine, with Elezaj (seven kills), Otranto (seven blocks) and
Nicole Sullivan (25 assists) all starring in the action.
The Dolphins now turn their attention to Medgar Evers, who comes to town Tuesday night.
