Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team hosted the Purchase College Panthers in their final regular season contest of the year and also their senior day. The Dolphins ended the season on a high note, with a victory over the Panthers by a score of 20-6.
The Dolphins had their foot on the gas early and often, scoring eight goals in the first period while holding the Panthers to only two goals to jump out to an 8-2 lead after the first period. In the second period, the Dolphins scored another seven goals to open up a 15-2 lead going into halftime.
The theme rolled into the second half. The Dolphins scored an additional five goals to extend their lead to 20-6 and they would win by that score. Alicia Rodriguez was a huge part of the Dolphins offense, which has been the theme all season. Rodriguez totaled eight points, including six goals and two assists to propel the Dolphins to their 20-6 victory. Another big part of the offense today was Alyssa LaTorre who tallied three goals, two assists and also three ground balls to round out her stat line. Senior duo Ava Starace and Ashley Teal also had a big impact throughout the win, as Starace tallied six points including four goals and two assists while Teal on the other hand tallied four goals and four assists as well as five ground balls to round out her box score. The Dolphins junior goalie, Katherine Hungerford, also had a solid game in net for the Dolphins tallying four saves on 10 shots faced and helping lead the Dolphins defense in shutting down the Panthers offense during the.
The Dolphins end their season with an overall record of 4-9 and a Skyline Conference record of 3-5, improving their conference record from last year, but unfortunately falling just short of a playoff berth into the Skyline Conference tournament. There is a lot to look forward to in the future for the program, and with head coach Meaghan Smith receiving a full offseason of recruiting and training, the sky is the limit for women's lacrosse at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
