Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team honored their seniors on Saturday afrernoon in a pregame ceremony before challenging Maritime College in Skyline Conference showdown. The Dolphins kept things close over the first half of action, but a second half surge from the Privateers handed CMSV the loss by the score of 22-8.
James Fitzgerald's team continued the theme of going toe-to-toe with one of the conference's best programs. Junior midfielder
Jacob Cochran had the scoring touch early, as he tied the game at one off a pass from senior
Giovanni Jean-Pharuns and cut the Privateers lead in half when he took it all by himself. Top scorer
Andrew Dzubak followed up with a goal of his own, bringing the score to 4-3 with 5:31 to go in the period. Dzubak would bury one more shot attempt to make it a 7-4 game going into halftime.
Maritime turned up the scoring efforts in the second half, scoring 10 unanswered goals throughout the third and carrying that over into the fourth with four more. Cochran, Dzubak and Jean-Pharuns would combine for four second half goals, but at that point, the game was too far out of reach.
Cochran's four goals was the best number in a single game this season, while Dzubak's hat trick gave him an impressive 36 goals this season. Cochran and defenseman
Adrian Guillermo paced the Dolphins with five ground balls each, while the long pole from the Bronx furthered his strong 2023 season with a team-high three caused turnovers.
Sawyer Davis had 19 saves in goal for the Dolphins, giving him his fourth straight contest with 19 or more saves.
The Dolphins close out their season on the road this week. They'll first take on Manhattanville College on Tuesday before traveling to Mount Saint Mary College to face the Knights.
