Dolphins Split With Old Westbury To Round Out Weekend

Bronx, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent baseball team faced off against the SUNY Old Westbury Panthers today in another Skyline Conference doubleheader. The Dolphins split the day with the Panthers, losing the first game by a score of 8-4 and bouncing back big time with a 16-3 win over the Panthers in game two.

The Dolphins fell into a 5-0 hole early before sending a hitter up to the plate, but answered back immediately with a leadoff home run off the bat of standout freshman outfielder Danny DiNorcia to cut the lead down to 5-1.
The following inning, DiNorcia went yard again, this time it was a two-run home run, to cut the Panthers lead to 5-3. The Panthers stretched the lead to 8-3 over the next few innings to give themselves a comfortable lead. The Dolphins attempted a comeback in the seventh inning, scoring a run courtesy of a Drew Knight RBI double, but fell short and lost game one by a score of 8-4.

In game two, the Dolphins offense exploded for 16 runs on 19 hits in a mercy rule shortened seven inning game. Senior pitcher Joe Decandia got the start for the Dolphins and also earned the win, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out one. The Dolphins offense stole the show today, scoring 16 runs and hitting five home runs, including a record-breaking home run off the bat of DiNorcia. DiNorcia's home run put him in sole possession of the single season home run lead all-time at CMSV and also tied the game for the Dolphins at 1-1 in the first.

The Dolphins hit two more home runs in the first inning, one was a three-run homer off the bat of sophomore backstop Jason Albert and the other was a two-run home run off the bat of junior pitcher/outfielder Sean Kennedy. The other two home runs came off the bats of freshman Will Granata and senior infielder Jake Pierre, who hit his seventh homer of the season. The Dolphins went on to win the game in dominant fashion, with senior pitcher Aidan Rice pitching in his third game of the weekend and finishing off the final 4 ⅓ innings for the Dolphins giving up 0 runs and striking out three, en route to his fourth save of the year.

The Dolphins are back on the field next Saturday, April 22nd against the SUNY Maritime Privateers for more Skyline Conference action.
