Patchogue, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent returned to the promised land for the first time in five years, clinching a berth in the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament with the tall task of facing off against the top-seeded St. Joseph's University Long Island Golden Eagles on Thursday, with the winner earning a spot in the championship game. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, their season game to end when they lost in three straight sets.
CMSV finished the season with an overall record of 11-15.
To the Golden Eagles' credit, they allowed just 40 total points across the three sets of action.
Terence Strehle and
Samuel Martinez - both playing in their final games for CMSV - had five kills each in the evening affair, with junior
Kyle Thompson chipping in five of his own. Senior
Kevin Erhand took over setter duties for head coach
Matthew Johann and compiled 13 assists while
Felix Paulino added five digs. Strehle, Martinez and
Olatomiwa Ibitayo had one block apiece.
Despite the loss, the program's first playoff appearance since 2018 won't go unnoticed. With a committed group back in the fold for 2024 and a full year under Johann's tuteledge, the sky is the limit for the men's volleyball team.
