Dolphins Dominate Maccabees, Cruise To Two Wins In Skyline Opener

Bronx, NY -

The College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball started off conference play today with a doubleheader against the Yeshiva University Maccabees at Roberto Clemente State Park on Friday morning. The Dolphins cruised to two victories today, scoring a combined 38 runs in both games and allowing none on the day. The first game ended by a score of 13-0 in favor of the Dolphins and the second game ended with a lopsided score of 25-0.

Freshman Will Granata got the start for the Dolphins in game one, his first collegiate start on the mound. Granata did not disappoint, going five shutout innings and only allowing one hit while striking out seven.

The freshman class continued to impress. First year shortstop Johnny Brucato got the scoring started for the Dolphins in the second inning with a three RBI triple to put the Dolphins up three. Brucato would tally six total RBI in game one, accounting for more than half of the runs the Dolphins in the day's opener. The sixth inning is when the Dolphins broke it open, with two runs scored on an RBI single by senior catcher Dylan Kelly, followed by an RBI single by Brucato. A run also came in on a fielder's choice by freshman outfielder Danny DiNorcia, with two runs also crossing the plate in on wild pitches during the inning. Senior pitcher Joe Decandia closed out game one for the Dolphins, tossing two shutout innings, striking out one and allowing only one hit.

Freshman pitcher Mike Iocco got the nod for his first collegiate start in game two, and like Granata he did not disappoint. Iocco hurled five shutout innings while striking out one and only allowing five hits, good enough to put the Yeshiva offense out of the way.

The Dolphins offense would explode in the second game, with graduate student Eric Zimmermann leading the charge. Zimmermann went 3-for-3, including a home run, and tallied five RBI. Granata continued his dominance against the Maccabees today, but instead on the offensive side of the ball. Granata added to his stellar day by hitting a moonshot to propel the Dolphins to a 21-0 lead at the time.

Closing out the game for the Dolphins was sophomore pitcher Aidan Cardenas, the hard throwing lefty finished the game for the Dolphins tossing a shutout inning with three strikeouts. Jake Pierre and Joshua McCormick would drive in three runs each.

The game was eventually called due to mercy rule as the Dolphins took a commanding 25-0 lead and would win by that score.

The Dolphins are back in action this Sunday against the Farmingdale State Rams in Farmingdale.
