Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Dolphins Get Chance Late, Drop One Goal Contest To Red Hawks

Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's lacrosse team took on The Montclair State University Red Hawks today in their last non-conference matchup before conference play starts. The Dolphins lost the game 9-8, but played a great all around game and looked good today heading into conference play this week.

In the first period, Ashley Teal and Alicia Rodriguez supplied the offense for the Dolphins, each scoring a goal, with Rodriguez also adding an assist on Teal's goal. The first period ended with the score knotted at two. In the second period the Dolphins scored three goals of their own, with Teal and Rodriguez scoring yet again while Kainani McConville added a goal of her own as well.

The Dolphins entered the second half leading by a score of 5-4 thanks to their stellar offensive presence and a solid performance from junior goalkeeper Katherine Hungerford, who held the Red Hawks to only four goals in the first half and nine goals for the entirety of the game. In the second half of the game, the Dolphins offense slowed down compared to their play from the first half, but their defense kept them in the game. A big part of their defense today was senior defender Kaitlyn Cronin, who had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

In the fourth period the Dolphins attempted a comeback as they scored two goals late in the period, courtesy of senior attacker Ava Starace and sophomore midfielder Alicia Rodriguez who tallied her third goal of the day for the Dolphins, which led the team on the day. The Dolphins had a chance to score, as they held possession in the final seconds of the game, but couldn't convert, as their comeback fell short.

The Dolphins now have their eyes set on conference play, which begins March 29 against the Manhattanville Valiants. The Dolphins will take on the Valiants at home on Marillac Field as they look to improve their season record to 2-4 and look to tally a conference win in their first conference game of the season.
