Dolphins Hit Road For First Time In 2023, Struggle Against New Paltz

New Paltz, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's lacrosse team hit the road for the first time in 2023 on Saturday afternoon, traveling upstate to take on SUNY New Paltz. The Dolphins, who entered the contest with a 2-1 record on their home turf, missed Marillac Field on Saturday, dropping the contest to the Hawks 18-2. The loss brought CMSV to an even .500 on the young season.

It was a rough four quarters for James Fitzgerald squad, who are expected to go through growing pains with such a young, emerging roster. The Dolphins were shut out in the first half, entering halftime trailing the Hawks 6-0. Despite the lopsided score, CMSV's defense kept pressure on the New Paltz offense, keeping things manageable.

The first goal for CMSV came less than two minutes into the third, when leading scorer Andrew Dzubak scored his ninth goal of the 2023 campaign. Junior Jacob Cochran was the other Dolphin to convert a shot attempt, scoring in the final period to make it a 17-2 game.

Cochran and junior defenseman Adrian Guillermo paced the Dolphins with three ground balls apiece while Cochran also had a team-best three caused turnovers. Freshman attacker Isaac Parsons led the way with five shots on goal. Senior keeper Sawyer Davis made seven saves in the loss, while freshman Mark Lulgjuraj made his first collegiate appearance, making two saves on three shots.

The Dolphins return home on Wednesday and look to get back in the win column against Mitchell College.
