Ft. Pierce, FL - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's baseball team kicked off their spring break trip to Florida today against the Thiel College Tomcats. The Dolphins got the win in their first game of the trip, with ace Andrew Geiger going the distance on the mound. CMSV now extends their winning streak to five with the victory.
The Dolphins started off hot with a leadoff single from freshman outfielder and reigning Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week Danny DiNorcia and a sacrifice bunt from sophomore outfielder Dominick Porto to move DiNorcia into scoring position. Senior infielder Jake Pierre continued his hot streak at the plate with an RBI double to give the Dolphins an early 1-0 lead.
The Dolphins extended their lead with a single from sophomore catcher Jason Albert to lead off the second inning. He would eventually come in to score courtesy of an RBI triple from freshman shortstop Johnny Brucato. Geiger, the team's top hurler, would get the start in the first game down in Florida for the Dolphins and he did not disappoint. Geiger hurled a complete game gem, with a final stat line of nine inning pitched, 11 strikeouts, two runs (one earned) and only six hits allowed. Geiger held the Tomcats bats at bay the entire game while keeping the Dolphins in the game, giving them a chance to win late. The Dolphins did just that, with a late inning pinch hit triple from senior infielder Engers Marte who would eventually be driven in thanks to a sacrifice fly from Albert to put the Dolphins up 3-2 in the 8th. The Dolphins never looked back after that, with Geiger shutting the door late and the Dolphins coming out victorious by a score of 3-2 to extend their winning streak to five games.
The Dolphins are back in action tomorrow in Fort Pierce with a single game against Franciscan University starting at 1 PM.
