Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Dolphins Defeat Bears, Remain In Playoff Contention

Brooklyn, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's basketball team shipped out to Brooklyn on Saturday needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Dolphins did just that, defeating St. Joseph's University inside The Hill Center, winning by three points while sweeping the season series in the process.

The Dolphins' offense improved as the game went on while staying stout on defense all afternoon. CMSV shot just 24% from the floor in the first quarter before knocking down exactly half of their shots in the fourth, all the while causing 17 turnovers and scoring 13 points off of them. Kira Villegas and Amber Been showcased their defensive skillsets on Saturday, as each swiped four steals while Kayla Hanley, Melanieann Broderick and Sofia Marcos combined for four of their own.

The trio of Villegas, Been and Broderick were also the driving forces behind Maria Nardulli's offensive gameplan. Broderick, the junior forward from the Bronx, had one of her best games to date, as she collected 16 points, with 11 boards and five assists to boot. Villegas had 16 points as well, while Been added 15 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocks to go along with her four steals. Hanley added six points, six assists and four rebounds of her own.

The Dolphins will look to keep their winning ways intact when they once again hit the road, this time to Purchase College to take on the Panthers.
