Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's volleyball team took part in their first tri-match of the 2023 season, hosting both Kean University and Hunter College on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins rebounded nicely after a tough loss to the Cougars, as they went toe-to-toe with the Hawks despite dropping the contest in three sets. After the day of games, the Dolphins now sit at 2-3 for the year.
In what has become a theme early on this season, the offensive trio of Kevin Erhard,
Samuel Martinez and
Terence Strehle led the way in terms of kills. Erhand, the senior hitter from Rockaway, took home seven kills against a tough Kean team that allowed 32 total points. Martinez and Strehle combined for 11 of their own. First year player
Matthew Barrancos was a boon to the CMSV offense as well, as he led the way with eight assists.
Felix Paulino once again paced the team with 10 digs in the first game of the afternoon.
The Dolphins put together a much better performance in their second game, dropping the first two sets by just seven points. While Martinez (seven kills) and Erhand (five kills) continued to stand out, there were contributions from all over the roster. Sophomore
James Rose strung together an impressive performance with five kills and three digs while freshman
Tristen Hood added three service aces and a block. Strehle dominated the passing game with 15 assists while Paulino had his second straight contest with 10 digs.
The Dolphins will now turn their attention to the conference. CMSV will host Old Westbury on Thursday for the first Skyline game of the season.
