Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Dolphins Comeback Attempt Falls Short Against Union

Schenectady, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's men's basketball team began their journey towards on a Skyline Conference crown on the road on Wednesday evening, traveling upstate to Schenectady to face off against non-conference foe Union College. It was a close battle throughout nearly all 40 minutes of action, but the Dolphins couldn't convert the last minute comeback, dropping the contest to the Chargers by the score of 76-71.

James Mooney's offense saw contributions from all over his roster in the early goings. Five different Dolphins scored baskets by the 12:36 minute mark, with Adrian Rraci, DJ Tucker, Haven Smith, Sean Goodwin and Joshua Cabezudo all finding their way to the score sheet. Cabezudo continued his surge on that end of the floor, scoring five consecutive points to give CMSV a 15-10 edge over the Chargers.

As Union continued to hold their own on their end of the floor, transfer sophomore Kevin Agyemang did the same in his. The guard may have scored his first points as a Dolphin at the 11 minute mark, but rounded out the half with 10 total points, with the Dolphins trailing by three at the break.

While CMSV remained consistent in the second half offensively, the Chargers went on to knock down 50% of their three point attempts, a key reason behind their push towards a victory. Union saw their lead balloon to 10 points with just over two minutes left in regulation, but it was at that point where the Dolphins began their comeback attempt. Tucker knocked down a quick three pointer out of a timeout, with CMSV's defense causing a turnover in the ensuing possession. From there, Cabezudo and Agyemang grabbed offensive rebounds to extend their possession, with an Agyemang jumper bringing the score to 74-69 with 1:17 left.

Cabezudo was able to bring the game within one possession, but clutch free throws and timely defense by the Charges was enough to give them the victory.

Cabezudo, a second team All-Conference selection in 2023, picked up where he left off last season. The senior guard led the way with 21 points on seven of 16 shooting while also pacing the Dolphins with 14 boards. Agyemang impressed in his CMSV debut, matching Cabezudo with 21 points of his own while chipping in three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Both Tucker (12 points) and Rraci (11 points) finished in double figures while Goodwin came off the bench and added five boards, four points and a pair of blocks.

The Dolphins will play on the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor for the first time against Hunter College on Saturday.
