Dolphins See Title Run End In Skyline Semifinal

Purchase, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent's remarkable title run came to an end on Thursday evening at the hands of the top-seeded Manhattanville College Valiants, who staged an impressive three goal comeback to advance to the Skyline Conference final against Farmingdale. The Dolphins' improbable story looked to continue after exiting the first half of play with a two goal lead, but the Valiants proved to be too tough to overcome.

CMSV wraps up their season in the Skyline Conference playoffs for the third straight season, with a semifinal appearance in two of the last three years.

The start of the game mimicked the 2021 Skyline final, a contest that also took place at Manhattanville. Star forward Ian Lamas made his presence felt in the early going, scoring his 10th goal of the season after crashing the box and finding a loose ball. First-year teammate JenLuis Henriquez did a great job fighting off his defender to give space to Lamas, with the Dominican Republic native also registering the assist.

The attack from Johnny Raj's squad didn't stop there. Less than 20 minutes later, it was freshman Oscar Billman's turn, as his strike from outside the box found its way on the left side towards the back of the net to improve his team's lead to two. Senior goalkeeper made tremendous stops along the way, as he picked up five saves, including two doorstep shots to keep his team on top.

The switch, however, was flipped in the second half. The Valiants were firing on all cylinders over the final 45 minutes of play, as they out shot the Dolphins 18-2, with neither of CMSV's attempts reaching Manhattanville's goalkeeper. Three of those 18 shots went for goals, with the final blow taking place with just 2:29 left in regulation. The final blow put an end to an otherwise impressive season by the Dolphins.

Despite the loss, the 5th seeded Dolphins made impressive strides under new leadership. The roster returning to Riverdale in 2024 will be a force in the fall of 2024.
