Patchogue, NY - It was business as usual for a College of Mount Saint Vincent's women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon with the Skyline Conference postseason on the horizon. The Dolphins hit the road for a long bus trip out to Long Island and got the job done against the Golden Eagles, winning by the score of 1-0 to improve their conference record to 4-0-2 through six games. That mark ties reigning conference champions Sarah Lawrence College atop the Skyline standings.
To give credit where it's due, the Golden Eagles kept things close over the course of 90 minutes, despite the onslaught of shot attempts by the Dolphins offense. CMSV outshot St. Joe's 19-3, with the Dolphins also taking eight more shots on goal than their opponents. The 2023 dyamic duo of
Caitlyn Thompson and
Alicia Rodriguez were the driving forces behind the team's lone point of the afternoon, something that has become a theme for the majority of the season. Thompson's fifth goal of her collegiate career came off a strong pass from the former First Team All-Skyline recipient, with both players tied for their team's lead in both goals (five) and assists (six).
The young Dolphins defense, led by
Arianna Morales, Dana DeDomincis,
Gisselle Soria and Kairi Horos, among others, continued their terrific campaign as a unit. Junior keeper
Brooke Frierson earned her third shutout in eight games, with the Harker Heights, Texas native lowering her goals against average to just 1.54.
CMSV continues to surge as playoffs near, and they'll look to keep up their winning ways against the St. Joseph's University Brooklyn Bears on Tuesday.
