Riverdale, NY - The College of Mount Saint Vincent played in their final contest on the Peter Jay Sharp Center floor, playing host to Mount Saint Mary College in a game that also served as the finale against conference opponents. It was a tremendous performance by a young Dolphins team with a bright future, but the Knights proved to be too much to overcome, as the visitors walked away with the five set victory (21-25, 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 12-15).
In a game that honored the senior class, the final-year Dolphins shined.
Melanieann Broderick,
Isabella Garcia and graduate student
Brianna Ayuso had terrific evenings, leading the way in kills (16) digs (24) and assists (43), respectively, while
Elizabeth Flores added a pair of digs and
Stacy Njimogu earned the start. The program will miss the crop of seniors, who most recently helped the team advance to the Skyline Conference semifinal game in 2021.
The future, meanwhile, was just as bright. Freshman
Jocelyn Castro, who very well could be in the running for Skyline Conference Rookie of the Year honors, had arguably her best game to date, tying Broderick for a team-high 16 kills while adding 2.5 blocks.
Adelina Elezaj continued her strong first campaign in Riverdale with a nine-kill, five-service ace effort while
Reilly Nichtern,
Raina Gengo,
Ellie Wood,
Samantha Rapp and
Carly Snyder each had strong evenings as well.
The Dolphins and Knights went toe-to-toe throughout the contest. CMSV's most dominant set came in the second, where they saw their lead balloon to 10 points when they scored eight of the set's last 12 points.
CMSV wraps up their 2023 campaign against Medgar Evers College on Thursday.
